Pre-Procedural Checklist
Please follow these guidelines below:
- Do NOT eat or drink anything after midnight
- Have a driver with you the day of the procedure
- You may take the following medications on the day of your procedure with a small sip of water:
- Antidepressants
- Anti-anxiety
- Asthma medications/inhalers
- Blood pressure medications (with the exception of ACE inhibitors or ARBs)
- Cholesterol medication
- Acid reflux medications
- Seizure medications
- Pain medications
- Thyroid medications
- Steroids if you take them regularly
- If you take Insulin, please tell your doctor
- Bring copies of any imaging (MRI/CT/X-ray)
- If you are scheduled for a spinal cord stimulator trial or intrathecal catheter and pump placement STOP these medications prior to surgery
- Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory (NSAIDs):
- Ibuprofen and Diclofenac 1 day before the procedure; restart 24 hours after procedure
- Stop Naporxen, Meloxicam, and Nabumetone 4 days before the procedure
- Aspirin 325mg – stop 6 days prior to the procedure
- Plavix (clopidogrel) – stop 7 days prior to the procedure
- Warfarin (coumadin) – stop 5 days prior to the procedure and check INR
- Rivaroxaban (Xarelto) – stop 3 days (75 hours) prior to the procedure
- Dabigatran (Pradaxa) – stop 5 days prior to the procedure
- Herbal (Garlic, Ginkgo) – stop 7 days prior to the procedure
- If you are scheduled for an injection (epidural steroid injection, joint injection, sympathetic bloc) STOP these medications prior to surgery
- Aspirin 325mg – stop 6 days prior to the procedure
- Plavix (clopidogrel) – stop 7 days prior to the procedure
- Warfarin (coumadin) – stop 5 days prior to the procedure and check INR
- Rivaroxaban (Xarelto) – stop 3 days (75 hours) prior to the procedure
- Dabigatran (Pradaxa) – stop 5 days prior to the procedure
- If your procedure involves a Spinal Cord Stimulator or Intrathecal catheter and Drug Pump, bathe as directed with Hibiclens (Chlorohexidine) the night before your procedure
